10 Great Camps for Kids

Some of the best childhood memories are from experiences at summer camp. The Roaring Fork Valley is home to more camps than you could possibly squeeze into a summer, but depending on the interests of your child, there is bound to be a camp that works. Both the Glenwood and Aspen Community Centers offer the most comprehensive collection of single and multi-day camp activities for kids, but all the camps listed below provide excellent safe experiences

Summer Camps

Aspen Art Museum
The Museum has a comprehensive collection of multi-day classes such as Crazy College, Rainbow Hour, Sight & Sound and Trash to Treasure for grades 1-4. Aspen Center for Environmental Studies
Both the Aspen Center and the Rock Bottom Ranch in Basalt offer great summer programs. Aspen’s Earthworks for grades 5-8 is one of the more popular programs while Basalt’s Farm and Wilderness Camp, Family Farm Days and Art Camps are always fun. Wyly Art Center

Carbondale Clay Center

Glenwood Art Council
This organization has been hosting a variety of summer programs for kids of all ages for years. Their dance, art and music programs are especially noteworthy. Contact 945-2414 or visit www.glenwoodcenterforthearts.com to learn more.

H2J Riding Camp
Probably the most comprehensive programs for kids in the Valley. H2J offers both single and multi-day programs for kids of all ages. Call 923-9297 for more information or visit www.h2j.com for a list of programs.

Aspen Snowmass Camps
SkiCo is mostly known for its excellent winter activities, but their summer program is just as rich with opportunities for kids. They offer both cultural and recreational camps throughout the summer. Visit www.aspensnowmass.com or call 923-0460 to learn more.

Glenwood Community Center
Whether it’s a weekend camping trip or a week-long program on kayaking, the Glenwood Parks and Recreation Department has great programs for all ages throughout the summer. Aspen Recreation Center
Situated in one of the great playgrounds in the country, the Aspen Parks and Recreation Department offers an extensive collection of outdoor and cultural programs.
